BONECO UVC LIGHT Effective against viruses and bacteria
With the rising concerns about airborne viruses and bacteria, a lot of air purifiers now include UV-C light technology.
- UV-C light has been used as a common sterilization method for water, air and surfaces for quite some time. UV-C lamps are nowadays found in hospitals, laboratories, offices, and factories.
- The radiation of UV-C lamps has a damaging effect on the DNA of microbes and thus kills viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
- The harmful effect of UV-C radiation on human skin and the risk of eye damage from direct exposure prevent the use of unshielded UV-C lamps in the presence of people.
The use of UV-C light in BONECO air purifiers is safe because the radiation only affects the air that is in the unit and not the room in which the unit is located. The UV-C lamps in BONECO air purifiers are placed in a special housing so that the radiation is concentrated only on the air stream. Thus, users are always optimally protected and never directly exposed to UV-C radiation.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight can be divided into UV-A, UV-B and UV-C light. The natural UV radiation of the sun is not visible to humans. The different types have the following wavelengths:
- UVA (315-400 nm)
The longest wavelength range of UV radiation reaches the earth's surface almost unfiltered. UV-A radiation from the sun can penetrate the skin and is partly responsible for skin ageing.
- UVB (280-315 nm)
A large part of the UV-B radiation from the sun is filtered out by the ozone layer of the atmosphere. Approximately 10% of the UV-B radiation reaches the earth's surface and is the main cause of sunburn.
- UVC (100-280 nm)
UV-C radiation is particularly energy-rich and is practically completely filtered out by the ozone layer of the atmosphere. This radiation can cause skin and eye damage in humans and has a germicidal effect, but fortunately does not reach the earth's surface.

Protection from UV-C radiation: Our BONECO devices comply with current safety standards and the UV-C lamps are always installed in such a way that, when used normally and correctly, people are never exposed to the UV-C radiation and only the air in the device is treated.
- Ozone production: Although it is true that high-energy UV-C radiation can convert oxygen molecules (O2) in the air to ozone (O3), this is not a concern with BONECO equipment. Our BONECO equipment meets modern safety standards established to protect users from excessive ozone exposure, and we have reduced the ozone production of our products to a technically feasible minimum, well below levels of concern.
